I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). My therapeutic approach comes from a place of empathy, support and collaboration. It also comes from a place of experience, having traveled down the road of therapy starting in my early 20's. I have experienced first hand the power of gaining insight coupled with removing shame and self-judgement. I believe we all have an inner wisdom and know ourselves best. I am here as a partner to help you tap into your strengths and live the life that you so desire.
Making life transitions, moving through trauma or addiction, relationship issues or figuring out how to feel better doesn't have to be hard or done alone. I am here to partner with you, as you go through this process and I promise you will uncover the answers within yourself all while creating action toward change and increased enlightenment.
I offer a blend of approaches to therapy that I have trained in, used, and continue to study. I combine attachment based therapy, somatic approaches, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and EMDR. In its simplest terms, I start where you are at with the goal of building a safe, nonjudgemental environment and work collaboratively to tap into your own insight toward growth and change.
Here is a little bit about each of the modalities I am trained in and use in my practice.
AEDP- Accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy is a mind-body psychotherapy that is informed by research in the areas of attachment theory, emotion theory, and neuroscience of change.
"In accelerated experiential-dynamic psychotherapy, the ultimate goal is to help clients develop the valuable skills they need to address and deal with their often painful emotional traumas, rather than resort to defensive tactics. By instilling in them the necessary tools to confront the issues as they present themselves, they will be able to function productively with a greater sense of courage. Clients who participate in AEDP often find that they had possessed the necessary coping skills all along, but were unable to access them due to emotional road blocks." As shared on goodtherapy.org
EMDR is a type of psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR helps resolve symptoms by reprocessing traumatic and disturbing events, memories, thoughts and feelings so that they no longer affect your well being. It is an accelerated approach to alleviating barriers to ones overall well-being. In fact, repeated studies show that by using EMDR people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference in a much shorter amount of time.
Article on EMDR as seen in Psychology Today "What the heck is EMDR therapy and can it really help me"?
I love incorporating an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach into therapy as well as coaching. It is a non-shaming, non-pathologizing approach to accessing our internal wisdom and strengths as human beings.
In essence, we all have parts of ourselves that we appreciate and at times may frustrate us. However, the basis of IFS is that all of our parts have our best interest in mind, and at the end of the day, they are trying to protect and help us. However, they may be going about it in a non-productive way. Instead of fighting these parts, judging or shaming them, we work collaboratively with them to gain a better understanding and in the end release the hold that they may have on us.
